The main window in my lounge is about 9 wide x 7 high. I have around 15 20 cm between the top of the batten and the ceiling but i don t think hanging my curtain pole off the ceiling will look good. I used to fit curtain tracks and poles when faced with the same as you got i put a batten on the wall first 2 x 1 should do it.
